Cat Boarding Information

About RSPCA Cat Boarding

As leaders in animal welfare, RSPCA WA provides the best care and enrichment to your cat. We offer cat boarding care packages in Perth, with various optional extras to ensure your cat is safe, secure and happy during their stay with us.

Your cat will be cared for in our cat hotel condos by our trained staff and experienced volunteers who can provide extensive human interaction throughout their stay.

Each cat condo consists of a living space, a cosy separate sleeping area, and a separate cat litter space. They are professionally designed to give your cat just the right amount of space to make them feel safe and comfortable, with plenty of room to play and stretch.

The Cat Boarding facility, located inside the RSPCA Cattery, is fully airconditioned in summer and heated in winter to keep your cat comfortable. Each cat condo has it's own independent ventilation system which prevents the spread of airborne bacteria and disease.

Best of all, when your cat stays with RSPCA Cat Boarding in Perth, they're helping to fight animal cruelty and care for animals in need!

What food do you supply?

We supply all boarders with premium Hill's Science Diet dry and wet food, for adult cats or kittens, twice daily.

If we don’t have your cat's regular diet or if they are on a prescription diet, we recommend that you supply this to ensure that your cat doesn’t get an upset stomach. There is no charge associated with this, and please ensure to bring enough food to cover the period of their stay.

No raw food or home-cooked diets can be fed unless they are commercial pre-packed raw diets. Home-made raw or cooked diets can pose a risk of contamination to both animals and staff. All items from home must be clearly labelled.

Thanks to @ImogenPalmer_art for the cute cat mural which adds so much colour and light to the RSPCA Cat Boarding area.

What can I do to make my cat's stay more comfortable?

We know that a different environment can be stressful for any pet so bringing something that smells like you or your home may help them settle faster. For example, a small bed, a favourite toy, a blanket or piece of your clothing. Please clearly label all items.

If your cat is a fussy eater or on a special diet then you are welcome to bring their own food (enough for their entire stay) as this will also make their stay more comfortable.

If you have any concerns in regards to your cat's health or behaviour we recommend you consult your vet before boarding your cat.

What do we do to make your cat's stay more comfortable?

At RSPCA Cat Boarding in Perth, we take an individual approach to the care of your cat and will give your cat time to settle to their new environment. Our staff are well trained in reading cat behaviour and body language, so they will take the extra time to earn the trust of your cat and will be guided by the pace of interaction your cat wishes to have.

The RSPCA Cat Boarding facility, located inside the Cattery, is heated in winter and air-conditioned in summer to keep your cat as comfortable as possible. Each cat condo has an independent ventilation system which prevents the spread of airborne bacteria and diseases.

We use Feliway spray and diffusers that disperse a synthetic pheromone that mimics a chemical that cats emit through their scent glands on their face when they are feeling relaxed. The pheromone helps to relieve stress and reduce anxiety.

If your cat is normally anxious we can administer Zylkene which is a natural product derived from casein, a protein in milk, that is well known to promote the relaxation of new-borns after breastfeeding. Zylkene can be extremely beneficial in reducing stress and anxiety and is available at an additional cost of $2 a day.

Is there a minimum stay for cat boarding?

There is a three (3) night minimum stay during our peak periods only. While we don't have a minimum stay at other times, we recommend at least a two (2) night stay so your cat can settle and be more comfortable.

Do you charge more for public holidays and peak periods?

There is a 15% surcharge on cat boarding fees on public holidays.

Our peak period for cat boarding begins on the third Sunday in December and continues until the second Sunday in January. A 25% surcharge is applicable for all nights within this period. The public holiday surcharge does not apply over these dates.

What happens if my cat needs to see a vet during their stay?

If your cat becomes unwell while boarding we will endeavour to contact your regular vet clinic and arrange an appointment. In the unlikely event of an emergency, your cat will be taken to the nearest vet clinic so that medical treatment can begin as soon as possible. In either circumstance, we will attempt to contact you to inform you of the situation. If we are unable to contact you we will attempt to contact your secondary contact. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for more details.

RSPCA WA's veterinary licence only permits our in-house vet team to administer treatments to animals belonging to RSPCA WA. This does not include the cats in our boarding facility.
